About the game


*'Nth Mars Immigration Project' was created by Suebin Park and Sukyung Kim as part of the <Interactive Media Arts> final project in 2022.

The planet that provides us with necessary resources is the planet we live. Two worlds overlap while deeply connected. As we have continued reckless development, considerable resources have disappeared. Where we live has been destroyed. However, although the global danger is around the corner, some entrepreneurs merely highlight human development and technological advance. Numerous people identify with them quickly and enthusiastically.

But what is the point if there is only humanity on this planet?

If humans are the only species left, they are self-sidelined by non-humans. Humans are alienating themselves from the whole species. This type of environmental isolation does not end itself. It highly influences the relationship among humans. We would experience severe social isolation and feel left out in person. As we no longer support each other, each would question their own identity.

We thought that every person has a different situation in which they feel a strong sense of alienation. Some might be afraid of being alone, while others all have their partners. Environmental isolation might frighten others.

So, we planned to ask players about several situations to remind different types of alienation. We intended to let them look back on the specific fear and be into overcoming and preventing that feeling, that aloneness. Starting from personal questions, we hope our survey could lead them to question their surroundings and where they live. This project covers the relationship between nature and humans and how the player identifies herself.

For the technology, unity3D would be the right tool. We are planning to create a horror game. How the audience feels is the essential point of this project. 2D videos might also frighten them, but standing and walking in 3D space would be much more effective. By using a 3D environment, players can look around themselves.

As a background story, the player is selected as a participant in SpaceX's Mars migration project. She stands in front of an unknown liminal space. The player receives a message from Elon Musk, informing the situation with several precautions. As the survey begins, she has no choice but to walk forward. This walking-forward action is also similar to how human history has developed. Can the player pass the test and reach the marvelously terraformed Mars?
